CARMEL — Peru sophomore Kash Bellar fired a 2-under 70 for a share of the first-round lead at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals on Tuesday at Prairie View G.C.
The final round is Wednesday.
Bellar started on the back nine. He bogeyed No. 10, but birdied No. 12 on his way to an even-par 36 on the back. He picked up steam with birdies on Nos. 3 and 4. After bogeying No. 5, he came back with a birdie on No. 7. He finished with a 2-under 34 on the front.
Bellar and Carmel senior Nick Dentino are tied for the lead. Three players are two shots back and another three players are three shots back.
Tipton junior Griffin Hare shot a 75 and is tied with five other players for 15th place. Hare closed with back-to-back birdies. Guerin Catholic senior and Howard County resident Ty Gingerich shot a 77 and is one of six players tied for 27th place. Kokomo freshman Brandon Hansen shot an 87 and is tied with two other players for 87th place.
Carmel has the team lead after shooting 299. Center Grove (303) and Noblesville (305) follow in second and third.
In Wednesday's final round, Bellar is in a group that starts on No. 1 at 8:09 a.m. It's the leadoff group for No. 1. Hare and his playing partners follow on No. 1 at 8:18 a.m. Gingerich is in a group that starts at 9:48 a.m. on No. 1. And Hansen is in the last group at No. 10 and will start at 10:15 a.m.
