Purdue needs a new baseball coach.
Oregon on Tuesday hired Mark Wasikowski, who served as Purdue's coach for the last three seasons. He was an assistant coach at Oregon the previous five seasons (2012-16).
Wasikowski led Purdue to a 39-win season in 2018, leading the Boilermakers to only the third NCAA Regional appearance in school history. The 2018 Purdue team finished second in the Big Ten both during the regular season and the conference tournament.
During his first season at Purdue, Wasikowski led the Boilermakers to 29 wins, a 19-win improvement from the 10-44 campaign the team had the year before his arrival. Wasikowski went 87-82 (.515) in his three years in West Lafayette — and the three years before his arrival saw the Boilers post a combined winning percentage of .272 (43-115).
Kokomo's Kyle Wade is a pitcher for Purdue. As a freshman in 2019, he appeared in 15 games (two starts) and had a 2-2 record with a 5.18 ERA. In 40 innings, he allowed 42 hits, struck out 27 and walked 11.
