TIGER: Northwestern No. 1 singles player Madison Layden is shown in a match against Lewis Cass on May 6.

Northwestern three-sport standout Madison Layden capped her junior season with another all-state award.

The Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association named its all-state selections and Layden made the second team. She posted a 19-2 record at No. 1 singles for the Tigers, who fashioned their fourth straight undefeated regular season and won their fourth straight Kokomo Sectional title. The Tigers finished as Kokomo Regional runners-up.

The all-state first team had 17 singles selections and 11 doubles selections and the second team had 16 singles and 10 doubles.

In the fall, Layden was a Class 3A second-team all-state pick in volleyball after helping the Tigers win their second straight Sectional 20 title. In the winter, she was a consensus all-state pick in basketball after helping the Tigers repeat as Class 3A state champions. She earned the most votes on the Associated Press all-state team, which is not divided by school size or grade level. She also was an Indiana Junior All-Star.

Layden is a Purdue basketball commit and a 2020 Miss Basketball candidate.

• Several local tennis players received honorable mention from the tennis coaches — Eastern junior Callie Sargent, Eastern senior Casey Clark, Kokomo junior Abigail Bowen, Northwestern senior Allison Miller and Western junior Abigail Moreno in singles and the Eastern duo of senior Morgan White and junior Kaylee Weeks and the Northwestern duo of junior Kendall Bostic and senior Jessie Jones in doubles.

Western's Rachel Zentz made the academic all-state team with Northwestern's Miller and Western's Lauren Clearwaters earning honorable mention.
