LOVES PARK, Ill. — The Kokomo Jackrabbits beat the Rockford Rivets 8-3 Monday night for a sweep of their two-game series in Northwoods League play.

Tied 3-3 after six innings, the Jackrabbits (8-6) scored two runs in the seventh inning, two more runs in the eighth and a single run in the ninth to win going away.

Three Kokomo relief pitchers combined for five scoreless innings. Aaron Husson, the first reliever, earned the win. He pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed one hit, struck out five and walked none. Kokomo High School product Bayden Root closed with 1.2 innings of no-hit work. He struck out two and walked one.

Austin Elder went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Jackrabbits’ nine-hit attack. Jeff Timko had a two-run triple, Ethan Gallagher was 2 for 4 with a run and leadoff hitter Logan Jarvis was 1 for 3 with two walks, two runs, one RBI and two stolen bases.

Kokomo improved to 8-3 since opening the season 0-3. The Jackrabbits and Kalamazoo share the lead in the Great Lakes East Division.

The Jackrabbits host the Traverse City Pit Spitters at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to kick off a four-game series.
