Junior All-Star girls no match for seniors
NEW CASTLE — The girls Indiana All-Stars overpowered the Junior All-Stars 97-58 in an exhibition Wednesday.
The seniors led 21-15 after the opening quarter, 46-34 at halftime and 71-49 after the third quarter — then blew it open with a 26-9 final quarter.
The seniors had five players score in double figures led by Sydney Freeman's 20 points.
Northwestern's Kendall Bostic and Madison Layden played for the juniors. Michigan State commit Bostic had a team-high 17 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Purdue commit Layden had three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
In the boys game, the seniors beat the juniors 127-116. Mr. Basketball and IU recruit Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 16 points to lead eight senior players in double figures. Purdue recruit Isaiah Thompson had 10 points and a game-high seven assists. For the juniors, Nijel Pack had 17 points to lead six in double figures. He also had four assists and three steals.
The senior teams will take on Kentucky on Friday at Louisville and on Saturday at Indianapolis.
Solidarity, Reser's set for rookie title game
Northwestern squad Solidarity Federal Credit Union and Russiaville squad Reser's will battle in the Howard County Rookie League Tournament championship tonight at Eastside.
In Wednesday's semifinal round, Solidarity beat Russiaville's First Farmers Bank 17-7 and Reser's beat UCT's The Local BBQ 15-5.
The championship is set for 7 p.m. Button Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram is the tournament's sponsor. Rookie ball is for players 8-under.
Myers, Williams earn state assignments
North Central Indiana Officials Association officials Chad Myers and Paul Williams will work as umpires in the IHSAA Softball State Finals on Saturday at Purdue University.
Williams of Kokomo will work the Class A game and Myers of Camden will work the Class 4A game.
