LOVES PARK, Ill. — The Kokomo Jackrabbits beat the Rockford Rivets 7-4 Sunday to move into a share of the lead in the Great Lakes East Division of the Northwoods League.
The Jackrabbits improved to 7-6. They are tied with Kalamazoo atop the six-team division with Rockford and Traverse City both a game back.
Starting pitcher Landon Weins worked five innings for the win. He allowed seven hits and three runs, struck out six and walked one. Joey Haass pitched the sixth and seventh, Kokomo High product Bayden Root pitched the eighth and Ryan Boyer pitched the ninth for the save. Haass, Root and Boyer combined to retire the final nine batters. Root struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Kokomo had seven hits — one each from seven different players. Denzel Clarke, Jeff Timko and Jack Kraus each had a double. Clarke drove in two runs.
Kokomo and Rockford conclude their two-game series Monday before the Jackrabbits return home for games against Traverse City on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
