Kokomo track sectional postponed to today
Heavy wind and rain along with plenty of lightning forced the postponement of Thursday’s Kokomo boys track and field sectional at Walter Cross Field.
The event has been rescheduled for tonight at 5 p.m. The sectional field includes 13 schools and draws area teams including the host Kats, Eastern, Northwestern, Taylor, Western, Cass, Peru, Maconaquah and Tipton and Tri-Central.
New schedule for Peru tennis sectional
PERU – The second round of the Peru girls tennis sectional was rained out on Thursday. Round two is now slated to take place tonight at 5:15 p.m. at Thrush Courts with the championship now now set for Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
Northwestern sets dates for tennis camp
Northwestern will host a summer tennis camp June 3-6 for students currently in grades K-8 in the 2018-19 school year.
The camp, which is open to boys and girls at any school who are interested, is set to run 9-10 a.m. for students in grades K-3 and 10:15-11:30 a.m. for students in grades 4-8.
Cost of the camp is $30 with checks made out to Kathie Layden. Registration forms can be obtained by calling Layden at 765-860-6365. Deadline to sign up for the camp is May 24.
The camp will be instructed by Northwestern tennis coaches and players at the high school tennis courts.
Northwestern hosting 3-in-1 camp
Northwestern will host a 3-in-1 basketball, tennis and volleyball camp June 10-13 for girls currently in grades K-8 in the 2018-19 school year.
Cost of the camp is $50, which includes a shirt. Checks are payable to Kathie Layden and registration forms are available by contacting her at 765-457-8101 at ext. 3433 or at 765-860-6365. She may also be contacted at Kathie.firstname.lastname@example.org. Registrations are due by May 24. Late registrations will be accepted but will not include a T-shirt.
Camps will take place in the Northwestern Fieldhouse and on the tennis courts from noon-2 p.m. each day with groups broken into K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. The camp will be run by Northwestern high school coaching staff and players.
The camp is open to any student, not just those at Northwestern. Each day, every camper will receive 40 minutes of instruction in basketball, tennis and volleyball. Accommodations will be made for middle school athletes who want to focus on two out of the three sports.
Coyote Kids program begins in June
The Club Kokomo Roadrunners have announced the schedule for this summer’s Coyote Kids running program. The program is free and open to any child from toddler to 18 years old.
The club will hold events on June 6, 13, 20 and 27, and on July 11 and 18. The first run on June 6 gets underway at 6:15 p.m. at Jackson Morrow park with the youngest age group starting the action. Runners can sign up before 6 p.m. on any race day, or pre-register.
At the end of the season’s program there will be an awards ceremony on July 25 at The Connection at Morningstar church.
